LOOKING BACK
The Madoo Conservancy is pleased to present a new exhibition in the summer studio featuring paintings by Robert Dash. Looking Back examines three groups of paintings by Dash that drew inspiration from works earlier in his career. From early in his career Untitled, oil on linen a painting from 1960 was inspiration for a series of works painted in 1888-89 in vibrant oranges and pinks. Seeing the earlier work which clearly represents Fields and Fences suddenly makes the late eighties paintings both on canvas and paper much more recognizable. His Sagg Main Series of 2007 were inspired by an unfinished 1972 print that he revisited and painted over. Those works then led to a series of eleven major paintings depicting Sagg Main Street. While wildly different in style these works exemplify a continuum in Dash's 55 year plus career. See the checklist here.
