This handcrafted dog collar is made from Kenyan cowhide leather and adorned with glass beadwork by Samburu women artisans. Its pattern is inspired by the moran bracelets worn by young male warriors—orange evokes the color of the earth, while each collar is finished with a single bead known as an ‘alama’, a quiet signature the mamas include to mark each piece with its own unique beauty.
The solid brass buckle is cast by hand using a traditional lost-wax method, transformed from recycled padlocks by artisans in Kibera, a neighborhood in Nairobi known for its creative resilience.
Each collar—and the precise placement of the single colored bead—is one of a kind.
